Chevrolet Corvette C5 |
The C5, the fifth generation Corvette, made a big leap forward in terms
of handling and styling, making it a match for it's European rivals.
Over
6 years in development, the C5 addressed its predecessors poor handing
with a new stiffer chassis and driver adjustable independent rear
suspension. A lightweight alloy engine was also new along with a manual 6
speed gearbox. The glass fibre body featured detachable roof panels in
targa form and offered a more comfortable interior environment with
state of the art head up display from 1999.
Best of all the new
Corvette was an absolute bargain. 172 mph for just £35,000 in the UK
should have made the C5 a best seller, but LHD only was not to
everyone's tastes.
