To combat the imminent threat from Ferrari, Porsche and McLaren,
Lamborghini have launched the stunning second generation Gallardo
Superleggera. Designated the LP570-4 (570PS, and still 4 wheel drive),
the Superleggera (aka Super Light) certainly lives up to it’s name. An
Aluminium frame, carbon fibre panels and seats, forged alloys and
polycarbonate windows shed over 65Kg from the ’standard’ Gallardo LP560.
With an extra 10bhp transmitted through the 6-speed e-gear shift, this
weight loss drops the 0-60mph sprint to just 3.3 sec with a 202mph
maximum, which just happens to be identical performance to arch rival
the 458 Italia.
Priced at £180k in the UK, the LP570-4 is
competitive with it’s rivals, but the optional (and unnecessary) carbon
brakes seem expensive at £14k. The Superleggera is the fastest Gallardo
to date and may well prove to be the greatest Lambo of all.
